Beef dishes
If you like meat dishes in hearty, rich sauce, try our spezzatino di manzo, or
Italian beef stew
made with plenty of fresh Mediterranean vegetables.
For an easy to prepare, restaurant-quality main course, perhaps for a dinner party or special occasion, try this
beef fillets steaks with creamy pepper sauce
. Here I use beef fillet steak, though the sauce is equally good with sirloin. For a less extravagant, everyday alternative, try it with any thin frying steak. The trick is go for a fairly lean cut so the creamy texture of the sauce can be fully appreciated.
A great recipe to make and freeze in batches is
chili con carne
. It is good with rice or crusty bread and a leafy salad.
The meat-lovers in my family cannot have enough of the traditional
cottage pie
. Here I have made it into individual portions but you can always make it in a large oven dish to share. You may just need to increase baking time a little if cooked in a large dish. It can also be made in a large batch and frozen individually for convenience.
A quick and easy traditonal dish is
beef stroganoff
. I prefer to use large mushroom for this as they tend to give the sauce a nicely dark colour.
Another great way to cook shredded steak is by making a
beef stir fry
. Here we do it with steak of your choice. However, it is also a great way of using up leftover roast beef.
A slower way to cook beef the Chinese way is with our
Chinese beef stew
recipe, with mushrooms and vegetables.
Often eaten as a main course, though it is consider halfway between a soup and a stew in its native Hungary, the
goulash
is a balanced meal in itself, containing meat and a variety of vegetables.
